Mick Jagger to make first appearance on Grammy stage

The Rolling Stones frontman will perform at the Feb. 13 ceremony as part of a tribute to soul great Solomon Burke, who died last year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer opened for the Rolling Stones several times during his career comeback late in life.
Jagger will perform with soul singer Raphael Saadiq during the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, which will air live on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles (8 p.m. EST).
"We're thrilled, delighted, excited and very much looking forward to Mick doing his debut on the Grammy stage," said Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy. "It's extraordinary to many of us that the fact is, this will be the first time; he has never performed on the Grammy stage."
This won't be Jagger's first appearance on a Grammy telecast. In 1986, the Rolling Stones were given a lifetime achievement award by Eric Clapton, and they performed on the show by satellite.
"We did a remote from London, and it was at least three o'clock there," said show producer Ken Ehrlich.
"I think they had been celebrating a little time before we went on camera," he said. "It was quite a moment."
Ehrlich has produced the show for 31 years and has always wanted Jagger and the Stones to perform, but it didn't work out until this year.
Ehrlich said it was Jagger's admiration for Burke that brought him to the Grammy stage.
"He's asked me not to go into detail about what he's doing, but I think when you see the performance, it will make a lot sense," said Ehrlich. "I think it was the idea of the performance that was intriguing to him and really brought him here."
Jagger will join a performers list that includes Rihanna, Cee Lo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Eminem, Arcade Fire, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Usher, Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum and Justin Bieber.
When asked who was left on his list of must-have Grammy performers, Ehrlich, noting the numerous legends who have appeared on the Grammy stage, said: "In all honestly, that's about it."
Charlie Sheen thanks CBS bosses fans for support

Sheen's thanks come as his off-camera antics, which led to a trip to the hospital last week and a return to rehab, caused a halt of production on television's highest-rated comedy, "Two and a Half Men."
In a four-paragraph statement, Sheen thanked his bosses, CBS chief Les Moonves and Warner Bros.' TV division President Bruce Rosenblum, for "their concern and support."
He did not offer any new details on his treatment. "I have a lot of work to do to be able to return the support I have received from so many people," Sheen's statement said.
It was issued hours after the Los Angeles Fire Department released a 5-minute recording in which Dr. Paul Nassif said he received a call from Sheen's residence and spoke with a secretary who sounded worried about the 45-year-old actor.
"They said don't call 911, but I got (Sheen) on the phone and he was very, very intoxicated, also apparently in a lot of pain," Nassif said.
Sheen was taken to a Los Angeles area hospital last Thursday and was released later that day. Sheen's publicist, Stan Rosenfield, cited the actor's history of hernia problems and later said his client went into rehab, but he did not say why.
Rosenfield declined to comment Wednesday on the actor's condition, citing medical privacy laws.

The statement demonstrated a different tone from the actor, who after his hospitalization sent a text message to an editor of the celebrity website Radaronline.com saying he was fine. "People don't seem to get it.... Guy can't have a great time and do his job also?" the website reported Sheen writing.
In Wednesday's statement, Sheen likened himself to another Hollywood actor who attracted notoriety for his off-camera behavior.
"Like Errol Flynn, who had to put down his sword on occasion, I just want to say, 'thank you.'"
Flynn, the 1930's movie idol famous for his swashbuckling roles, also made headlines for his off-screen personal and legal troubles.
In the 911 call, Nassif is heard asking a dispatcher whether anyone from Sheen's camp had called, and when told that no one had, the doctor said: "These people are afraid to call."
During most of the call, Nassif could be heard finding the address to Sheen's home so Nassif could give it to the dispatcher. Nassif was talking to his wife, Adrienne Maloof-Nassif, a co-star of the reality TV series "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," and placed another call to find Sheen's address.
When the dispatcher asked Nassif for further updates, he replied: "All I know is I got a secretary who called and said he's in severe pain and is intoxicated. He said he's very worried but he said don't call anybody."

Miranda tops ACM noms at 7 ChesneyZBB take 5

Lambert, joined by Ronnie Dunn on Tuesday morning to announce the nominees at The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, received her first ACM entertainer of the year nomination and will defend her 2010 top female vocalist win, along with nods for song and single of the year. Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band were next with five nominations each.
Dunn summed up Lambert's run with two words: "She's smokin'."
The blonde firebrand started her sizzling hot streak last year at the ACMs, with three wins, including album of the year for the lionized "Revolution." After her engagement to Blake Shelton and the launch of her first headlining tours, she received a record nine nominations at the rival Country Music Association Awards and went on to win three.
Expect 2011 to be eventful as well. In 13 days she's up for two Grammy Awards and her song "The House That Built Me" is also nominated. She's due to marry Shelton later this spring. And she's writing songs for her highly anticipated next album.
"ACMs are always a blast and they've always been great to me," Lambert told The Associated Press after announcing the nominations on "The Early Show." I'm still on Cloud 9 from last year, so I can't really think about this. I can't even believe that it's here already and that I've got seven nominations. I didn't even know I was eligible for seven."
Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban join Lambert in the entertainer of the year category. In a surprise, two-time reigning entertainer of the year Carrie Underwood was not nominated after becoming the first woman to win multiple trophies in that category.
Entertainer of the year is one of two awards decided by fans along with top new artist. Fans can vote for this year's entertainer winner into the third hour of the show, which will air live April 3 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on CBS.
Chesney made a strong return to the awards circuit after a year out of the spotlight. He earned four nominations as producer and artist on album of the year nominee "Hemingway's Whiskey" and "The Boys of Fall," a song of the year nominee. "Boys" also received a video of the year nomination.
Zac Brown Band got higher value from its nominations than any other nominee. The band scored nods for top vocal group and album of the year for "You Get What You Give." It also was nominated for single, song and vocal event of the year for "As She's Walking Away," earning featured singer Alan Jackson three nominations of his own.
And Brown scored four individual nominations as producer on the album, single and vocal event nominations and composer for song of the year.
Swift and The Band Perry received four nominations each. Swift is up for top female vocalist with Lambert, Underwood, Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack.
Paisley, fresh off his artist of the year win at the CMA awards, is up for his fifth straight top male vocalist ACM. Aldean, Shelton, George Strait and Keith Urban also are nominated in the category.
Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Randy Rogers Band and The Band Perry join Zac Brown Band in the top vocal group category and Sugarland, the JaneDear girls, Joey + Rory, Montgomery Gentry and Steel Magnolia are up for top vocal duo.
Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now," Jamey Johnson's "The Guitar Song," Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" and Dierks Bentley's "Up on the Ridge" round out the album of the year category.
Lambert rode a groundswell of enthusiasm for "Revolution" and it's fiery first single, "White Liar," to her success in Vegas last year. This year it's "The House That Built Me," the poignant ballad about tough times that closely mirrored her own personal story growing up in Texas.
The two songs show Lambert's versatility and Dunn for one thinks Lambert can expect a long career filled with nominations.
"She has that sass," Dunn said. "It's authentic. It's not manipulated. That's important. If you can come along and back that up with musical talent, you got it made."
Chilly Night Warm Hearts at the Screen Actors Guild Awards

SAG is the union that traditionally represents film actors, although those lines have blurred over the years, as guild members float between working in both movies and television. There was much talk at the show that AFTRA, the union for TV actors, and SAG will soon merge; SAG president Ken Howard told the full house that "by this time next year, I believe SAG and AFTRA will be one union, together."
And many of the winners agreed.
"Unions made this country strong and they give a voice to the worker," proclaimed Melissa Leo through tears of joy, who took home the Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Supporting Role for "The Fighter."
Not everyone was concerned with politics, however, as the gorgeous dresses were the talk of the night. Presenter Susan Sarandon wore Nicole Miller in purple, nominee Amy Adams went with a white chiffon number from Herve L Leroux, and Annette Bening looked completely elegant in a bejeweled golden Tony Ward gown.
Bening lost out to Natalie Portman, who took home the Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role for "Black Swan" while showing her baby bump in a white Azzaro sheath. She, too, cheered on her union, saying, "I've been working since I was eleven years old, and SAG has been taking care of me all along."
Like Portman and Leo, who have won every major award so far this season, Christian Bale and Colin Firth took home the Male equivalents, for "The Fighter" and "The King's Speech." But the surprise of the night came when "The King's Speech" nabbed the biggest prize that SAG gives, Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. "The Social Network" has been scooping up all the best picture accolades until now, which many take as a sign that "The King's Speech" may edge it out come Oscar time at the end of February.
As everyone from Sofia Vergara, Angie Harmon, Jon Hamm, Nicole Kidman, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Longoria and the whole cast of "Glee" looked on, other winners were awarded from the television side. Prizes went to Steve Buscemi of "Boardwalk Empire," Julianna Margulies from "The Good Wife," Alec Baldwin of "30 Rock," and, in an award that only shocked the recipient, Betty White for her work in "Hot in Cleveland."
"This is the biggest surprise I have ever had in this business," the 89-year-old White said with a laugh, as her fellow actors gave her a standing ovation. "You didn't applaud when I turned 40!"
