Irma Nici told the U.S. magazine In Touch last week that she had enjoyed a series of trysts with the former England captain.
Beckham denies the affair and is suing for libel. It has also emerged today that the former England captain hired a private detectives to track her down and serve her personally with the 5million writ for damages.
# She's a middle-class girl who became a Bosnia war refugee
# She sold her 'story' after an ex-boyfriend read her secret diary
The Sunday Mirror reports that they tailed the high-class hooker for three days and tracked her down to New York's W Hotel, where she was still touting for business.
Beckham meanwhile flew to Trinidad yesterday, where his football academy is hosting a football festival.
The event coincides with the final of the U-17 Womens World Cup which was held in Port of Spain last night.
FIFAs Sepp Blatter and Jack Warner were at the event and Beckham was expected to lobby the pair to support England's 2018 World Cup bid.
But now The Mail on Sunday can reveal that she was born Irma Nezirovic, and is a former refugee who is said to have witnessed atrocities in a Bosnian internment camp.
A friend has claimed Ms Nici witnessed rape during the conflict that led to break-up of the former Yugoslavia.
And the woman who employed her as an escort has alleged Ms Nici made her claims only after a former boyfriend found a diary she kept detailing her life.
Kristin Davis, 35, who hired Ms Nici to work at Wicked Models, a Manhattan escort agency, said: Irma told me shes broken up with a British boyfriend who found a journal she kept about her life as a prostitute in Holland where shed grown up as a refugee Britain and the U.S.
He threatened to call the Press and her mother. She didnt believe him at first but then he called her mother, who had had a suspicion of what she was doing, but this was a former upper-class family of Muslims from Sarajevo, and her mother was very upset. Irma figured next thing it was all going to be in the Press.
She was under so much stress she says she had a stroke that temporarily paralysed the right side of her face and she ended up in hospital for 10 days in December 2009. When she came out, she decided to take matters into her own hands and made these allegations to the media.
Beckham and his wife Victoria dismissed the allegations as completely untrue and totally ridiculous.
Yesterday it was reported Beckham had begun legal action in Los Angeles Superior Court against In Touch for unspecified damages for libel, slander and emotional distress.
According to Ms Davis, Ms Nici was commuting between London and New York.
She answered a hiring ad and I met her and she was beautiful and intelligent and sweet-natured and charming, and I went Hired!
She was one of my top girls. Shed dropped out of college, she told me, after breaking up with an Arab boyfriend who she had loved very much. She said she had a new boyfriend who was British she was madly in love with and who was madly in love with her. She said he didnt know what she did for a living.
She was coming backwards and forwards between the U.S. and London. She said after she broke up with the Arab guy she had gone back to her old life as a prostitute, but it was very difficult in London because the market was being flooded with Eastern European girls driving rates down through the floor.
Working for me in New York, she probably was making a few hundred thousand dollars a year, but the problem was she kind of stole my clients.
Guys would fall in love with her and want to have long-term relationships with her, and I wasnt making any money out of it. One Arab royal set her up with a bank account which she said had $250,000 in it, and he bought her a $150,000 Mercedes.
Ms Davis also claims one of Ms Nicis clients was Eliot Spitzer, the former Governor of New York who resigned in 2008 after he admitted sleeping with a $1,000-an-hour call girl. Ms Davis could not corroborate Irmas claims about Beckham.
A friend of Ms Nici said she grew up in a prosperous Sarajevo home. Her father was an officer in the military and her mother, Nadija, a psychiatrist. She had a younger brother Damir, now 22, who is physically disabled.
The friend said when the war broke out in 1992 her father was conscripted, and Irma, then nine, her mother and brother were forced to go to an internment camp at an army base.
Irma said it was chaotic and notorious for assault on women. Soon after they arrived she witnessed a rape. She didnt really understand what was going on.
According to the friend, after nine months the family went to Holland where they were granted asylum and lived in an internment camp for a year before being given residency. Her father found them in the camp but the couple later divorced.
Irma said the family had a very hard time in Holland. The authorities wouldnt accept her mothers medical degree and there wasnt a lot of money. By the time Irma was 12 she was in and out of homes for troubled children.
Irma never felt at home in Holland. But when she moved to London, she finally felt at home again. Her life seemed on track. Her Arab boyfriend supported her and she was studying hospitality management.
'They had a two-bed flat in Bayswater, Central London, drove a Lamborghini and he bought her lots of jewellery. She was helping her family, she bought her mother a diamond ring and gave her brother clothes.
When they broke up she said she went back to the industry [prostitution]. She had no other way to support the lifestyle she was used to. She felt responsible for her family.
She also felt the men she met liked her for herself. She had started to meet clients in the entertainment industry.
The friends says her favoured night spot was China Tang at The Dorchester, because of the food.
