Michael Jackson committed suicide, says lawyer

The defence lawyer for Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray has claimed that the singer was so worried over his financial situation that he committed suicide.

Murray is to stand trial for Jackson's death this year and has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Statements by attorney Edward Chernoff were released during a pretrial hearing on Wednesday and have now urged the defence to request Jackson's financial record, reports Billboard.

"The crux of the defence is going to be that Michael Jackson engaged in a desperate act and took desperate measures that caused his death," Chernoff told Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor.

"We believe at the time Michael Jackson died he was a desperate man in relation to his financial affairs."

However, Deputy District Attorney David Walgren accused the defence of attempting to distract from the trial's main argument - deciding whether Murray acted with gross negligence when administering Jackson with anaesthetic propofol along with other sedatives.

"This is an irrelevant sideshow designed to take issues away from the jury and smear Michael Jackson," Walgren said.

Howard Weitzman, the representative for Jackson's estate, has also spoken out against the request, declaring: "Is the theory that Michael Jackson committed suicide, took his own life? I don't think that's a saleable theory."

The request for financial documents has been refused by a judge.

Opening statements for the case are due to be heard on May 9.

Biggest act of digital age

Michael Jackson has been named the most popular act of the digital age.
Information collected from Gracenote, which compiles its data from billions of searches on services such as iTunes, Google lyrics and through Sony products, has indicated that Michael Jackson is the most looked-up, reports Music Week.

Other artists who follow Jackson on the list include Bob Marley and Tupac Shakur.
Gracenote added that The Beatles rank highly in Europe and North America, but do not appear in the uppermost parts of the data in other territories.

Jackson was recently overtaken as the most popular person on Facebook by Eminem.

Discovery cancels Michael Jackson autopsy TV show

The Discovery television network on Friday said it canceled plans to air a reenactment of the autopsy on Michael Jackson's body, citing an upcoming court hearing and concern by the late pop star's estate.

The show, "Michael Jackson's Autopsy: What Really Killed Michael Jackson," had been set to air in several countries of western Europe and in the United Kingdom on January 13.

"Given the commencement of legal proceedings beginning next week, and at the request of Michael Jackson's estate, the scheduled broadcast of the medical documentary related to Michael Jackson's official autopsy has been postponed indefinitely," Discovery Networks International said in a statement.

A Discovery spokesman declined comment beyond the statement. Co-executors of the estate responded in their own statement saying they were "pleased" with the decision.

The "Thriller" singer died suddenly of a prescription drug overdose on June 25, 2009, age 50, only weeks before beginning a series of comeback concerts. An autopsy by Los Angeles officials showed Jackson died chiefly of an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol that he used as a sleep aid.

Discovery's show, which was not scheduled to air in the United States, was an unofficial, fictional account of what the autopsy must have been like and its results.

But Jackson fans worldwide protested in an online petition launched earlier this month, and the co-executors of his estate sent a letter this week to Discovery Networks calling the program "insensitive" and "in shockingly bad taste."

A print advertisement for the program shows a body covered by a sheet, with one hand poking out wearing the singer's well-known sequined glove.

Following Discovery's decision, McClain and Branca released a statement saying, "we are hopeful that this show will never run in any market in the future."

"While Discovery cited legal proceedings and our request as the reasons for its decision, none of this would have happened had it not been for the incredible passion displayed by countless Michael Jackson fans worldwide who knew they stood as one and that their voices could not be ignored," the statement said.

Jackson's physician at the time of his death, Dr. Conrad Murray, has admitted giving the singer propofol, which is often used in surgery, and Murray has been charged by authorities with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death.

Murray has pleaded not guilty, and a preliminary hearing to determine if enough evidence exists to make him stand trial begins in Los Angeles on January 4.

Judge to decide Jackson syringe testing issues

A judge overseeing the criminal case of a doctor charged in Michael Jackson's death has scheduled a hearing to determine if medical items found in the singer's bedroom should undergo more testing that defense attorneys contend is crucial to the case.

Attorneys for Dr. Conrad Murray have been asking for months that fluids in two syringes and an IV bag found in Jackson's rented mansion be tested to determine how much of the anesthetic propofol and painkiller lidocaine they contained.

Coroner's officials ruled Jackson died of acute propofol intoxication.

Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor will hear the testing arguments on Dec. 29 six days before Murray is scheduled to appear for what is expected to be a lengthy, detailed preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for the cardiologist to stand trial.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Murray's attorneys have struck an urgent tone regarding the need to test the medical items, saying the evidence is deteriorating. They have described the fluids in one of the syringes as having turned to "salt" and contended the testing should have been done after Jackson's death in June 2009.

Coroner's officials say in court filings the testing was not necessary to determine Jackson's cause of death.

Prosecutors have downplayed the significance and refused to enter into an agreement with Murray about testing the items.

The tests are likely to destroy the samples.

In a document filed Friday, coroner's officials laid out an experimental testing procedures they can use if Murray's motion is approved.

One of Murray's attorneys, J. Michael Flanagan, argued in a court filing the delay in testing the syringes might hurt the doctor's defense.

"An essential fact in this case is not only how much propofol was in Michael Jackson's body but how it was put into his body," Flanagan wrote. "Since further degradation and deterioration of the evidence makes it increasingly more difficult to test, the prejudice to the defendant is increasing."

District attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said prosecutors had not filed a response to Murray's motion.

Dr. Murray Pleads Not Guilty to Michael Jackson's Death

Dr. Murray pled not guilty today to the charges of involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson. Jackson's death, as determined by the L.A. County Coroner's Office, was a result of Propofol intoxication. Dr. Murray prescribed the drug, along with others, to Jackson just before he died.

After the 25 minute hearing, Murray was taken into custody with a bail set at $75,000. According to TMZ, Murray cannot be in possession of or prescribe anesthetics, specifically Propofol. Murray had to hand over his passport at the end of the hearing - all of this in front of Jackson's parents and other family members.

The judge told Murray plain and simple, "I do not want you sedating people," but the medical board called him a "danger to the public". The board hoped that the judge would stop Murray from practicing medicine all togehter, but the judge didn't go that far. Dr. Murray is set to be in court again April 5th.

Father of Boy Who Accused Michael Jackson of Molestation Commits Suicide

Evan Chandler - the father of Jordan Chandler, who accused Michael Jackson of molestation in the 1990s- was found dead in his Jersey City apartment. He was 65 years old. Officials claim Chandler was found with a .38-caliber revolver in his hand, but there was no note.

In the 1990s, the Chandlers were awarded 20 million dollars from Michael Jackson, although Jackson was never officially charged with sexual abuse.

Jordan Chandler had since estranged himself from his father. He even went as far as getting a restraining order against his father. Evan Chandler allegedly hit his son with a dumbbell.

Family and friends have come forward stating that Chandler had become increasingly more depressed. He suffered from wild mood swings and depression.

Michael Jackson Wanted to Create Robotic Twin

The late King of Pop Michael Jackson underwent several three dimensional scans in 1996 so a virtual reality ‘robotic’ replica of himself could be made.

The scans could now be used to recreate the Thriller star in pop videos, computer games or even films.

The anonymous US businessman who owned the images has reportedly been trying to sell them for $1 million. “The data has been in our archives since he had the scans," the businessman told Britain's Daily Star newspaper. "The thing about this data is it immortalised him at the age of 37, before his nose was disfigured and when he was in the prime of his life.”

Apparently Michael’s funeral was nearly cancelled at the last minute due to costs.

Around $1 million was estimated to have been spent on the funeral, which took place on September 3.

Court papers have revealed that lawyers acting for the ‘Billie Jean’ star’s mother Katherine had filed a request to the administrators of his estate to pay for the funeral bills just three days before the funneral.

The lawyers stated that if the funeral home and local police department’s bills were not paid by the next day, the burial would not go ahead as planned. Administrators were able to pay the bills in time so that the funeral did not have to be delayed.

Katherine’s lawyers admitted the cost of the funeral was high, but added it was: “Entirely commensurate with the decedent’s worldwide status as an entertainer and the world’s grief over his death.”

Michael Jackson Amongst Top-Earning Deceased Celebrities

Michael Jackson makes his debut on the Top-Earning Deceased Celebrities list. Jackson, who passed away earlier this year due to acute Propofol intoxication, placed third. The "Thriller" singer made an enormous amount of money this year due to heavy radio play, royalties from album sales, and from the rights to his name and stock in the Sony music catalog. Ever since his unexpected passing, fans have been selling memorabilia, including a lock of Jackson's hair.

Forbes senior editor Matthew Miller said: "The money might be drying up in Hollywood, but there's still plenty of cash being made in the graveyard. The earning power of dead celebrities is more powerful than ever before."

Fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent tops the list this year, knocking "The King" Elvis Presley off his top spot. Saint Laurent passed away in 2008, but he made $350 million from his fashion label and from the sale of his art collection.

The songwriting team Rodgers and Hammerstein came in second this year. The two penned famous popular Broadway musicals, such as "Oklahoma", "South Pacific", and "The Sound of Music."

Here's the list in its entirety:
1. Yves Saint Laurent - $350 million
2. Rodgers and Hammerstein - $235 million
3. Michael Jackson - $90 million
4. Elvis Presley - $55 million
5. J.R.R. Tolkien - $50 million
6. Charles Schultz - $35 million
7. John Lennon - $15 million
8. Dr. Seuss - $15 million
9. Albert Einstein - $10 million
10. Michael Crichton - $9 million

Michael Jackson to be Laid to Rest Today

Two months after his untimely death, Michael Jackson will be buried today at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. The ceremony will be a private affair for family and friends only. The funeral was supposed to be held on August 29, which would have been the King of Pop's 51st birthday, but was pushed back with no explanation.

There was much debate over where Jackson should be buried - brother Jermaine Jackson had wanted Michael to be buried at the singer's Neverland Valley Ranch estate. It was decided that Jackson will be buried in the Great Mausoleum on the grounds of Forest Lawn (George Burns, Clark Gable, Nat King Cole, John Wayne and Walt Disney are also all buried there). Jackson's mausoleum will have replicas of Michelangelo's "David" and "Moses" sculptures and a stained glass rendition of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper." Gladys Knight will perform an undisclosed song at the funeral, but no media of any kind will be present. Police, however, will be there, including canine units and air support, to keep gawkers away.

Jackson Brothers Get a Reality Show Deal

I guess A&E couldn't help themselves. Where they see Jacksons, they see gold. It has officially been announced that a new reality series, called The Jackson Family Dynasty starring Michael Jackson's brothers such as, Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Tito has started filming.

Details about the show remain scarce. It has not been made known when the show will premiere, how many episodes it will have, or if any footage of Michael will be included. Looks like they all are wasting no time in taking advantage of the limelight from their brother Michael's death.

Murder! Jackson's Death Ruled Homicide.

Michael Jackson's death has been determined by Los Angeles police as a homicide by way of sworn affidavit to search Jackson's doctors offices in Houston Texas. You may recall last month that Jackson's doctor was the center of LA Police's investigation surrounding Jackon's death.

According to the L.A. coroner's affidavit, "Jackson's cause of death was due to lethal levels of propofol." The corner explicitly classified Jackson's death a homicide. Dr. Conrad Murray is referenced in the search warrant and affidavit as admitting he administered Jackson with with the drug in question tying him directly to Jackson's death.

Charges against Jackon's doctor Conrad Murray are sure to follow, the question is when.

Frozen In Time: Even in Death MJ Decides the Show Must Go On

For weeks the mystery of Michael Jackson's body was media fodder. Frankly we at PCM thought that was boring news. Not any more!

Where is is MJ's body? Frozen in time! OK, not like Han Solo, or Ted Williams -- He's frozen more like David Blane.

You may read in the news soon that Michael Jackson's body is frozen, and that headline is clearly a teaser, the simple reality is that his mother has him at Forrest Hill's still in a deep freeze so that she may still visit him.

In other news... The coroner has returned his brain. Recently the LA coroner kept it to examine for clues hoping to find any other causes towards his death.

Michael Jackson's Final Rehearsals Will Be Released

Sony Pictures Entertainment has confirmed it will piece together parts of the hours of footage from the late Michael Jackson rehearsing for his sold-out ‘This Is It’ London tour.

The film will share its name with the never-performed shows and will feature 3D segments, behind-the-scenes footage and a host of the songs Jackson was perfecting on the days prior to his sudden death on June 25.

Jackson named music executive John McClain and his long-time attorney John Branca as an executor of his estate in his will. “This film is not only a tribute to an artist who created excitement every moment he was on stage, but also is a fitting gift to the millions of fans worldwide who loved him and who he devoted his professional life to entertaining,” McClain said.

High School Musical director Kenny Ortega was the creative director for the ‘This Is It.' He is glad that the world will get to see Jackson's vision for the tour.

“Everyone will see what our team was so fortunate to experience, which was the full commitment, passion and creativity that Michael put into this project," Ortega said. "He was the architect of ‘This Is It’, and we were his builders. The footage that was captured from the early stages of the production to our technical rehearsals at the Staples Center in Los Angeles will show Michael as he truly was, creatively involved with every aspect of the production. It will also show Michael as one of the greatest entertainers in the world. The footage will show that he was on his way to another theatrical triumph.”

Some of the proceeds from the film will go directly to Jackson’s estate for the benefit of the Michael Jackson Family Trust.

“Our goal is to work with partners who treat Michael’s legacy with dignity and respect, while allowing us to substantially build the value of his estate for the benefit of Mrs. Katherine Jackson, Michael’s three children and the charitable causes that meant so much to him during his life,” Branca said.

The Prince of Pop's mother Katherine has been given full custody of her son’s children - Prince Michael I, 12, and Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, also known as 'Blanket'.

The movie will hit theaters worldwide on October 28.

Madonna, Beyonce Knowles and Mariah Carey are planning a Michael Jackson tribute album

Some of the worlds biggest music stars are ready to honor the late Michael Jackson by recording versions of his songs for a charity album.

Robbie Williams, Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross have also been linked to the LP, as is the British schoolboy who was hand picked to sing at Micheal's memorial concert last month, Shaheen Jafargholi.

“The idea came from the memorial concert," a source said. "Many fans asked if cover versions from it would be released, and it seemed a wonderful idea. This covers album is sure to be a massive worldwide hit with fans and could raise a fortune for Michael’s favorite charities.”

The contributing stars will pick their favorite songs by the ‘King of Pop’ to cover. It is believed Mariah will record her version of ‘I’ll Be There’ from the memorial, while Shaheen will sing his version of ‘Who’s Loving You’. He has also reportedly been asked to record Michael’s early smash ‘Ben.'

Robbie is apparently going to sing ‘Man In The Mirror’, and other tracks expected to be on the album include ‘Rock With You’, ‘She’s Out Of My Life’ and ‘Bad.'

A Michael Jackson tribute concert is also being planned in London – where he had been due to play 50 shows starting this summer and running into 2010 – on the date of what would have been his 51st birthday, August 29.

Michael Jackson Tribute Continued

Yesterday, I shared with you most of Paul Teroux's tribute article to Mr. Jackson. Well, today I'm going to give you the rest of the meat! An interview with Michael Jackson himself!

An Interview With Michael Jackson

My phone rang and I heard: "This is Michael Jackson." The voice was breathy, unbroken, boyish tentative, yet tremulously eager and helpful, not the voice of a 40-year-old. In contrast to this lilting sound, its substance was denser, like a blind child giving you explicit directions in darkness.

Paul:"How would you describe Elizabeth?".

Michael:"She's a warm cuddly blanket that I love to snuggle up to and cover myself with. I can confide in her and trust her. In my business, you can't trust anyone."

Paul:"Why is that?"

Michael:"Because you don't know who's your friend. Because you're so popular, and there's so many people around you. You're isolated, too. Becoming successful means that you become a prisoner. You can't go out and do normal things. People are always looking at what you're doing."

Paul:"Have you had that experience?"

Michael:"Oh, lots of times. They try to see what you're reading, and all the things you're buying. They want to know everything. There are always paparazzi downstairs. They invade my privacy. They twist reality. They're my nightmare. Elizabeth is someone who loves me really loves me."

Paul:"I suggested to her that she was Wendy and you're Peter."

Michael:"But Elizabeth is also like a motherAnd more than that. She's a friend. She's Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, the Queen of England and Wendy. We have great picnics. It's so wonderful to be with her. I can really relax with her, because we've lived the same life and experienced the same thing."

Paul:"Which is?"

Michael:"The great tragedy of childhood stars. We like the same things. Circuses. Amusement parks. Animals."

(And there was their shared fame and isolation.)

"It makes people do strange things. A lot of our famous luminaries become intoxicated because of it they can't handle it. And your adrenaline is at the zenith of the universe after a concertyou can't sleep. It's maybe two in the morning and you're wide awake. After coming off stage, you're floating."

Paul:"How do you handle that?"

Michael:"I watch cartoons. I love cartoons. I play video games. Sometimes I read."

Paul:"You mean you read books?"

Michael:"Yeah. I love to read short stories and everything."

Paul:"Any in particular?"

Michael:"Somerset Maugham," he said quickly, and then, pausing at each name: "Whitman. Hemingway. Twain."

Paul:"What about those video games?"

Michael:"I love X-Man. Pinball. Jurassic Park. The martial arts onesMortal Combat."

Paul:"I played some of the video games at Neverland," "There was an amazing one called Beast Buster."

Michael:"Oh, yeah, that's great. I pick each game. That one's maybe too violent, though. I usually take some with me on tour."

Paul:"How do you manage that? The video game machines are pretty big, aren't they?"

Michael:"Oh, we travel with two cargo planes."

Paul:"Have you written any songs with Elizabeth in mind?"

Michael:"Childhood".

Paul:"Is that the one with the line, 'Has anyone seen my childhood?'"

Michael:"Yes. It goes"(and he liltingly recited "Before you judge me, try...", and then sang the rest).

Paul:"Didn't I hear that playing on your merry-go-round at Neverland?"

Delightedly, he said, "Yes! Yes!"

He went on about childhood, how, like Elizabeth, as a child star he used to support his family.

Michael:"I was a child supporting my family. My father took the money. Some of the money was put aside for me, but a lot of the money was put back into the entire family. I was just working the whole time."

Paul:"So you didn't have a childhood, thenYou lost it. If you had it to do again how would you change things?"

Michael:"Even though I missed out on a lot, I wouldn't change anything."

Paul:"I can hear your little kids in the background"The gurgling had become insistent, like a plug-hole in a flood). "If they wanted to be performers and lead the life you led, what would you say?"

Michael:"They can do whatever they want to do. If they want to do that, it's okay."

Paul:"How will you raise them differently from the way you were raised?"

Michael:"With more fun. More love. Not so isolated."

Paul:"Elizabeth says she finds it painful to look back on her life. Do you find it hard to do that?"

Michael:"No, not when it's pertaining to an overview of your life rather than any particular moment."

(This oblique and somewhat bookish form of expression was a surprise to meAnother Michael Jackson surprise. He had made me pause with "intoxicated" and "zenith of the universe", too. I said: "I'm not too sure what you mean by 'overview'."

Michael:"Like childhood. I can look at that. The arc of my childhood."

Paul:"But there's some moment in childhood when you feel particularly vulnerable. Did you feel that? Elizabeth said that she felt she was owned by the studio."

Michael:"Sometimes really late at night we'd have to go outIt might be three in the morning to do a show. My father forced us. He would get us up. I was seven or eight. Some of these were clubs or private parties at people's houses. We'd have to perform." This was in Chicago, New York, Indiana, Philadelphia, he added all over the country. "I'd be sleeping and I'd hear my father. 'Get up! There's a show!' "

Paul:"But when you were on stage, didn't you get a kind of thrill?"

Michael:"Yes. I loved being on stage. I loved doing the shows."

Paul:"What about the other side of the businessIf someone came up after the show, did you feel awkward?"

Michael:"I didn't like it. I've never liked people-contact. Even to this day, after a show, I hate it, meeting people. It makes me shy. I don't know what to say."

Paul:"But you did that Oprah interview, right?

Michael:"With Oprah it was tough. Because it was on TV on TV, it's out of my realm. I know that everyone is looking and judging. It's so hard."

Paul:"Is this a recent feelingThat you're under scrutiny?"

Michael:"No," he said firmly, "I have always felt that way."

Paul:"Even when you were seven or eight?"

Michael:"I'm not happy doing it."

Paul:"Which I suppose is why talking to Elizabeth over a period of two or three months on the phone would be the perfect way to get acquainted. Or doing what we're doing right now."

Michael:"Yes."

Conclusion

At some point Michael's use of the phrase "lost childhood" prompted me to quote the line from George William Russell, "In the lost boyhood of Judas / Christ was betrayed", and I heard "Wow" at the other end of the line. He asked me to explain what that meant, and when I did, he urged me to elaborate. What sort of a childhood did Judas have? What had happened to him? Where had he lived? Who had he known?

I told him that Judas had red hair, that he was the treasurer of the Apostles, that he might have been SicariiA member of a radical Jewish group, that he might not have died by hanging himself but somehow exploded, all his guts flying.

Twenty more minutes of Biblical apocrypha with Michael Jackson, on the lost childhood of Judas, and then the whisper again.

"Wow."

Does This Mean The King of Pop Will Reveal His New Album This Summer?
Michael Jackson insists on keeping his album anonymous for now. But with fulminate promulgations like these, it is safe to infer a new studio album will surface real soon. No doubt June or July(name one celebrity who went on tour without releasing new material and I'll change my predictions accordingly).

Just hang on to the edge of your seat. Unlike last time, I firmly believe his comeback will be astronomical! Christian has just confirmed finishing his new uniform(Click Here). I'm sure he'll mount new records. After all, that is his middle name.

Summery
So to bring all this into perspective, here are the points I'd like to emphasize...

  • An official message will come from Michael's lips tomorrow(stay tuned)
  • A 30-concert gig is in the makings this Summer(which draws us to our last conclusion)
  • Although no title or release date have been confirmed, the above bullets point unto a Summer release.
Your patients has now been awarded. It's now time for the media to wipe the smirk of their faces and inaugurate the dawn of a new era! It's official! Michael Jackson is back in action! Please stand by!
