Brazil Lost 2010 FIFA World cup Quarter Finals against Netherlands

The five times world cup champion Brazil lost their quarter finals match against Netherlands (1-2) in the FIFA World cup 2010 at Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth. The Brazilian player Felipe Melo helped Netherlands triumph by scoring in own goal.

The first half of the match, Brazil got the early lead after Robinho scored before the ten minute. Brazil was capable to hold on to that lead and it seems like they are way on Semi-finals. But, in the 53 minute of the match, Wesley Sneijder got a free kick. Felipe Melo tried to head the ball away; unluckily it went into the rival goal, tying the score. In 67 minute, Sneijder made one more goal giving the lead to Netherlands.

The coach of Brazilian team Dunga took over on a 4 year contract from Carlos Alberto Parreira after Brazil lost to France at the similar stage in 2006 and even before this loss he had specified that he wasnt predictable to persist no matter the outcome at the tournament. The Dutch team started the match playing the ball fine and stopping the attacks Brazilians with a tough mark. The temperature goes up when Robben and Van Bommel also suffered shortages in the midfield. Robinho came to argue harshly with the Dutch.

The Brazilian lost his title. Felipe Melo was sent off. Holland played the ball and they used to supervise the anxiety Brazilian advantage. It was not until the end. After 2 outs in World Cups for Brazil, the Netherlands reached rank.

Hurt Locker star braves real Afghan minefield

Renner poses for a portrait in New York

Better known for defusing bombs in Iraq in the Oscar-winning film The Hurt Locker, actor Jeremy Renner braved a live minefield in Afghanistan yesterday to draw attention to the tireless work of clearing mines that kill and maim years after being buried.

Despite years of effort to dig up mines planted during decades of civil war and Soviet occupation, more than 650sq km of Afghan territory are still considered active minefields.

While 2009 saw a significant drop in numbers, thousands of Afghans have been killed or injured by mines or explosive war remnants over the past 30 years with many losing limbs or suffering serious scarring.

To emphasis the scale of the problem, 39-year-old Renner teamed up with the United Nations in Afghanistan this week, visiting an Afghan de-mining team north of the capital Kabul.

Its tremendous, he told Reuters during his visit to a minefield in Bagram, about 100km north of Kabul.

Seeing the guys firsthand is a wonderful gift for me, he said. I dont think there are many guys in my position Im just a silly actor that get an opportunity to come out to Afghanistan at a time of war and get to experience this.

The Hurt Locker, which picked up six Oscars including best picture last year, follows an elite band of soldiers who disarm roadside bombs on the streets of Iraq.

At the centre is Renners character, Staff Sergeant William James, a reckless rebel. In one scene, he strips off his protective gear before strolling up to defuse a roadside bomb, despite protests by his fellow soldiers.

PRIDE

Yesterday, Renner played it safe, donning a Kevlar suit and protective mask before venturing onto the minefield.

Abdul Latif, a bearded veteran who has worked as a de-miner for 16 years, waved his metal detector slowly across the ground, demonstrating the task to Renner. Renner asked through an interpreter whether he gets a sense of pride from the job.

I do it because I love my country, the Afghan replied.

Renner said he had decided to visit Afghanistan because he wanted to see the tangible work being done.

The possibilities are what Im so attracted to here. The possibilities are endless for the communities and I think they deserve it, he said.

While a lot of progress has been made, the UN mine clearance centre (UNMACCA) which oversees all mine clearance programmes in Afghanistan says there are more than 2,000 communities still affected by landmines.

Between January and May this year, more than 11,000 anti-personnel mines more than 380,000 other explosive remnants were cleared, UNMACCA said. Under an international treaty, all anti-personnel mines in Afghanistan are to be cleared by 2013.

On top of Afghanistans problem of landmines are the thousands of improvised explosive devices (IED), or homemade bombs, now being laid by insurgents.

In a report on Afghanistan this month, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said there had been an alarming 94 per cent rise in the number of IED incidents in the first four months of this year compared to the same period in 2009.

Women rule Forbes celebrity power list

Women claimed three of the top five spots in Forbes magazines 2010 Celebrity power list, with singer Lady Gaga making her first entry and Oprah Winfrey retaking her No.1 position.

Talk show host Winfrey earned an estimated US$315 million (RM1 billion), putting her atop the annual Forbes Celebrity 100 list for the fourth time. Winfrey reclaimed the No. 1 spot from 2009 winner Angelina Jolie, who fell to 18th in the latest ranking.

Grammy-winning R&B singer Beyonce rose to second with an estimated US$287 million from a tour and album sales, together with deals in fashion, fragrance and other endorsements.

Despite the worldwide recession, Forbes said that celebrity earnings remain remarkably resilient, with this years stars having earned a collective US$4.7 billion during the past year, up from US$4.1 billion in 2009.

Forbes ranking is a measurement of entertainment-related earnings over the past 12 months as well as exposure in print, television, radio, online, and social media.

Avatar director James Cameron jumped back onto the Forbes list for the first time since 1999, landing at No. 3 after his movie earned a record US$2.7 billion at worldwide box offices.

Glam pop star Lady Gaga made the list for the first time, taking fourth place with estimated earnings of US$162 million.

Golfer Tiger Woods is the worlds fifth most powerful celebrity, despite a sex scandal that took him out of golfing for five months and lost him several lucrative endorsements.

He managed to earn US$105 million during the past year, even as his revenue streams have diminished and his golf course design business struggles in the global economy, said Forbes.

The top five on the Forbes 2010 Celebrity 100 list are:

1. Oprah Winfrey, US$315 million

2. Beyonce Knowles, US$287 million

3. James Cameron, US$210 million

4. Lady Gaga, US$162 million

5. Tiger Woods, US$105 million

Philippine singing sensation Charice joins Glee

Teenage Philippine singing sensation Charice Pempengco said she had landed a role in the popular US television show Glee.

The diminutive Filipina, who first gained global renown via video-sharing website YouTube and has since become a favourite of US TV talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, announced her next career move on her Twitter microblogging site.

Its official. Im on Glee (next season) but (there is a) story behind it, Pempengco, 18, tweeted.

The local show-business community has been awash with rumours in recent months that Pempengco, whose singing has impressed Winfrey, among others, had landed a role in Glee, aired by Fox Television.

When (the) rumour came out, it wasnt true. But then after that, I tried to audition. And I made it!! Pempengco said.

Glee is an hour-long comedy series that follows an optimistic high school teacher as he tries to reignite his passion while working with a group of outcasts to revive the fortunes of the schools glee club.

Pempengco first made her name on local TV talent show Little Big Star, where her performances became an Internet sensation and caught the interest of the US TV shows.

Pempengco has since appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and several times on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

You are a force to be reckoned with. That voice comes from something bigger than yourself, Winfrey raved after one performance.

Pempengcos debut, self-titled album was released five weeks ago and has peaked at number eight on the US Billboard charts.

She is scheduled to sing the national anthem at the inauguration of Philippine President-elect Benigno Aquino on June 30.

Cyrus steps out of tween idolhood toward Liberty

Cyrus is trying to shake of the vestiges of Hannah Montana

Miley Cyrus audition tape for the Disney Channels HanID be found on YouTube. In it, the 12-year-old Cyrus is sporting frizzy hair, a big smile and, even then, her trademark whiskey drawl.

She displays the practiced poise of all child actors a fearlessness when it comes to staring straight into the camera and reciting her lines and her posture and mannerisms reveal that she knows this is a business opportunity and not a social call.

Flash-forward five years, and Cyrus latest YouTube offering, her video for the title track of her album Cant Be Tamed, involves a bird-cage set that doubles as a pole-dancing playground, writhing background dancers and an outfit notable for its feathers and dcolletage.

Like Disney teen idols Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake before her, Cyrus is making the often-murky transition into adult artist. The June 22 release of Cant Be Tamed is the boldest statement in a years-long process of transitioning Cyrus away from the scrubbed cheeks and all-American girl charm of Hannah Montana to a modern pop diva.

Im just at a certain place where Ive changed a lot as a person, she says. Ive grown up a lot, which everyone does.

Everyone does, but very few have to do it in the public spotlight with all the divisions of Miley Inc. from film to TV shows to voice-over work to apparel riding on the success of the transition.

Its no secret that Cyrus has been publicly testing the waters of adulthood for the past few years making dramatic displays like the bed-head Vanity Fair photos or the vaguely stripperish dance moves at Nickelodeons Teen Choice Awards followed by an equally dramatic retreat.

Her music has followed a similar act of toeing the line between tween and adult, with singles The Climb and Party in the USA offering a far different message from earlier teeny-bopper tracks like See You Again and 7 Things.

On the eve of the video debut of Tamed on May 4, Cyrus knows that its going to ruffle some feathers. Youre going to, like, die when you see the bird cage in the video because its so crazy, she says. Despite Cyrus march into adulthood, she still talks like a teenager all rapid-fire patter that, by a reporters transcribing tally, comes in at around 200 words per minute. Ive got, like, 30 dancers in there and a tree and a nest. Literally, its out of control. Im definitely going to be doing a lot more stuff like that.

Mileys transformation was inevitable shes been clawing herself out of that cage for a while, says Suzanne Ross, executive producer of E!s True Hollywood Story and E! Investigates. Im surprised it shocks people anymore. Its an inevitable part of growing up Disney. Its a formula, from what Ive seen from past stars: Disney makes you a star, you make them an enormous amount of money, and then you either crash and burn or you go out and stake your claim in the real world.

Cant Be Tamed (Hollywood Records) is Cyrus seventh studio album. Previous sets range from the four soundtracks shes released under the Hannah Montana imprimatur to two as herself and one Walmart-exclusive EP.

While Cyrus is strenuously distancing herself from the days of Hannah, she still has the benefit of being a product of the giant Disney promotional machinery.

Were very fortunate that we have artists who have many, many levels to their careers, whether its film, TV, books or records, Hollywood Records general manager Abbey Konowitch says. The unfortunate news is that were fighting for minutes not hours or weeks for the artists availability.

Cyrus began work on the album in December 2009, while she was touring in England, with a sold-out five-night stand at the O2 in London. Producer John Shanks who worked with Cyrus on her single The Climb reteamed with Cyrus for the album and racked up frequent-flier miles in the process.

John spent quite a bit of time, God bless him, running over to England and catching her for parts of the day for recording and writing, Hollywood Records head of A&R Jon Lind says. He would come back to LA and work on the songs and tracks. He was really a soldier and a world traveller for going to do this creative thing in between Mileys schedule.

Besides Shanks, Cyrus worked with two familiar faces on the album: co-songwriters Tim James and Antonina Armato, who penned 7 Things and See You Again and also wrote this albums title-track first single with Cyrus.

I call Antonina Mommy because shes my second mom, Cyrus says. No one could ever understand the relationship we have. Ive been working with her for four years, and every day I go into the studio and we just sit around and eat cupcakes and talk and I tell her everything about my life. I think thats why we make good music together.

Metal fan

Although several songs on the album throb with the kind of Euro-inspired dance beats heard on hits by David Guetta and the Black Eyed Peas, Cyrus says the sound is secondary to the personal lyrics.

I listen to zero pop music, which is really weird for someone who makes pop music, Cyrus says, noting that the first concert she ever went to was a show by Poison. (She covers the metal bands Every Rose Has Its Thorn on the album, with Bret Michaels doing backing vocals.)

My 13-year-old self would have beaten up my 17-year-old self because she would be like, Youre a sell-out! But thats not what it is. Its not dance music thats just about, Ooh, Im in the club and everyones looking at me. It means something. Im not just sitting here trying to sell glitz and glamour ... because no one lives that life. A lot of (pop) songs are super shallow, but this music isnt.

As an example, Cyrus cites the album track Liberty Walk, about someone who finds the courage to leave an abusive relationship. She says she doesnt have a formal process for song writing, instead preferring to take notes on her cell phone or in the journal she keeps on her computer.

With anything the clothes I wear or the way I want to look I dont plan it, Cyrus says. Even with the video (for Cant Be Tamed) I had the treatment, but beyond that, it was whatever comes. We didnt have all the choreography set in stone because I didnt want it to end up looking fake and polished. Everything in life has to come naturally or I feel like its just been done.

For Cyrus, being authentic may be the key to her success as she transitions to adulthood.

The challenge is: How do these pop teen idols mature without alienating their fans those that supported you on the way up, including the parents, who often shelled out the dough for the music and the concerts? Ross asks. Miley is in good company. After Britney (Spears) appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in the infamous hot pants that created a boycott of her music and the release of Im a Slave 4 U, she took a tremendous amount of heat. But as long as the audience perceives that the artist is in control of their image, theyre likely to be more forgiving. With Christina (Aguilera), when she put out Dirrty, that also created a media storm, but she reeled it back in when she reinvented herself with the torch songs and the ballads.

Hannah Montana, the TV show that made Cyrus a household name, is coming to an end. (The fourth and final season of the series will air this summer.) For Cyrus, its conclusion comes with a mixture of exultation and relief. But its relief tinged with the knowledge that the end of the TV show just frees Cyrus for more work.

Its hard when youre doing a show and youre going to London for two days and then you come back and youre doing the show again, she says. I can kind of bounce around everywhere and I dont really have something thats tying me back here.

A big part of the appeal of Hannah Montana was seeing her flip between the two characters she portrayed on the show: schoolgirl by day, pop star by night. The same could be said of Cyrus, as shes formed some teenage pop-culture opinions in her downtime from stardom. Lady Gaga gets a thumbs-up unlike a lot of artists, all her music does mean something to her personally and she cant quite find it in herself to suspend her belief enough to watch Glee, even though the show featured her hit The Climb in a recent episode.

Honestly, musicals? I just cant. What if this was real life and I was just walking down the street on Rodeo Drive and all of a sudden I just burst into song about how much I love shoes? She pauses for a second, and then laughs. It would get hits on YouTube.
