Beckham to sue over US magazine 'lies'

David Beckham said on Thursday he will sue an American weekly magazine that published allegations that the former England captain had slept with a prostitute.

Beckham's legal representatives said in a statement that the claims were "completely untrue and totally ridiculous, as the magazine was clearly told before publication".

"Sadly we live in a world where a magazine can print lies and believe they can get away with it."

David Beckham wants to sue a US magazine over allegations

The statement followed a story in the In Touch magazine relating to an alleged relationship in New York in August 2007.

Beckham, who plays for Los Angeles Galaxy in the United States, has been married to pop star Victoria for 11 years and they have three children.

Celebrities discover downside of Twitter

Is celebrities obsession with Twitter starting to wane?

When singer John Mayer, one of Twitters most high profile users with 3.7 million followers, shut his account on Monday, he was just the latest celebrity to quit the micro-blogging site.

Some stars are finding that Twitter may be great as a promotional tool or for reaching out to fans, but it also comes with a downside.

Teen singer Miley Cyrus deleted her account a year ago, persuaded into silence by her new boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth.

Hairspray star Amanda Bynes deleted her Twitter account last week without any notice to her fans. Earlier this month, Disney starlet Demi Lovato, 18, tweeted that shes saying goodbye to twitter because the access that the other people have is uncomfortable to me.

The blessing of tweeting for celebrities was this idea that you could bypass sending out a press release and go directly to those who are following you, said Robert Thompson, professor of Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University.

However, many celebrities have found that their tweets are being made fun of, or blow up in their faces.

Mayer has joined the flow of celebrities abandoning Twitter.

Although Bynes, 24, offered no explanation for quitting Twitter, she seems to have had a volatile relationship with the so-called Twitterverse. The actress got flack for announcing on Twitter that she was retiring from acting earlier this year, and then subsequently un-retiring a month later.

She also got into Twitter fights with users who disagreed with her tweets, including those about her taste in men.

Many celebrities are realising the old saying that familiarity breeds contempt, Thompson told Reuters. We used to think that celebrities were distant people we could never communicate with. Twitter reversed that and some celebrities are growing tired of that.

Just ask country singer LeAnn Rimes, who was an active Twitter user when her marriage ended after she cheated on her husband with married actor Eddie Cibrian.

After Rimes and Cibrian divorced their spouses, the duo was photographed kissing each other, which sparked outrage. The singer began to get attacked on Twitter but when she tried defended herself on the site, users retaliated even more.

Rimes closed her account in July 2010, tweeting that it was unhealthy for me and my family to have to read negative comments. However, a week later she was back on Twitter, saying she missed her fans and wanted to let them know how much u r appreciated.

Paul Levinson, author of New New Media, says Twitter has now reached a sort of shaking out point.

Those who joined as part of a bandwagon because their peers were on the site, are now finding out if it is truly a medium that works for them.

For some it will continue to be one of the best things they could do. For others, it has become an imposition, a pain, Levinson said.

Comedian Ricky Gervais joined Twitter last December because he was hosting the Golden Globes and they want me to do a running commentary on Twitter.

However, less than a month later, he quit. In his last Twitter post, Gervais wrote he was going to stop these tweets because I dont see the point.

So is this the beginning of a mass Twitter exodus? Not so, said Bonnie Fuller, president and editor-in-chief of celebrity website HollywoodLife.com.

For every celebrity that quits Twitter, theres 10 who sign up, Fuller said. There are just too many of them benefiting from Twitter. Celebrities see it as a great opportunity to communicate with fans, give them information and get feedback.

Fuller cited reality TV star Kim Kardashian, who uses Twitter to successfully promote herself, the products shes lent her name to, and the careers of her sisters.

As for Mayer, a spokesperson for the Grammy-winning singer said he had closed his Twitter account because his concert tour has ended and Mayer is preparing to head back to the studio.

Mayer used Twitter to talk to fans and address controversies, including an expletive-laced Playboy magazine interview in February about his sex life.

The bluesy writer of hits like Gravity remains active on Facebook, his own website JohnMayer.com and what appears to be his new favourite blogging site, Tumblr.

In a post on Tumblr last week, Mayer said he felt he had made the right move to the new site. Despite having only 50,000 Tumblr followers, he admitted to having an even larger Tumblr addiction than the one he had to Twitter.

Whether or not he continues on Tumblr remains to be seen. In a September 12 post the latest and last post to date Mayer thanked fans for making his recent tour a success and signed off by saying that it was time to (try to) disappear for a while.

Kim Kardashian support her ex boyfriend Reggie Bush against corruption Charge in football.

When the NCAA investigated Reggie Bush for allegedly receiving lavish gifts when he played for USC, Kim Kardashian spoke up for her former man. She said, (Reggie) worked hard for that Heisman and deserves it. He earned it! The NCAA didnt ask Bush to return his trophy, but USC voluntarily returned their copy which had been on display. Which kind of seems like an admission of guilt, no?

Is Montana Fishburne Your Role Model? Me Too!

Montana Fishburne is proving herself to be one of the most delusional girls in America. The 18-year-old daughter of Laurence Morpheus Fishburne not only thinks her papa will be proud of her after getting arrested for prostitution and starring in her first porno, but now, she thinks shes a role model. Yesterday, she wrote on Twitter, Aw this little 13 year old girl came up to me talking about Im her favorite celebrity and she is going to make a sex-tape when she turns 18. How totally terrifying.

As people jumped on Montana, she started unleashing increasingly erratic Twitter messages. Dont blame me.. blame yourselves! If you spent more time on Twitter than with your kids this week, she wrote. Its too late fools. Me and @ihatekatstacks are the next generations ROLE MODELS. You had your chance and decided to go to college smh hoes
Soon things had escalated to, The Illuminati pays me to raise your children since you all too busy watching my tape and doing drugs, is that what you want me to say smh?! And, Only reason you hoes went to college was A.) To get away from your parents and B.) To go hoe it up and drink HAHA, whos stupid now #SLAVES!
Yeah, Im not even sure what to say to conclude this one.

Prosecutors claim doctors over-medicated Anna Nicole

Smith died in Florida from an accidental prescription drug overdose in February 2007.

Two Los Angeles doctors used multiple fake names to funnel powerful addictive medications to Anna Nicole Smith, prosecutors said yesterday at the opening of a trial into the Playboy models sudden death three years after it occurred.

Prosecutors also alleged that Smiths lawyer and one-time boyfriend, Howard K. Stern, helped keep the buxom blonde actress over-medicated, calling various doctors to obtain painkillers and other drugs, and sometimes administering them.

Smith, a fashion model and TV actress famous for marrying an 89-year-old oil billionaire, died in Florida from an accidental prescription drug overdose in February 2007 at the age of 39.

The two doctors and Stern are not charged with causing Smiths death, but are charged with unlawfully prescribing and giving controlled substances to an addict for three years.

Stern, and doctors Khristine Eroshevich and Sandeep Kapoor, have all pleaded not guilty. They could face more than five years in prison if convicted.

Prosecutor Renee Rose told a jury at Los Angeles Superior Court that Stern and Kapoor put Smith back on the same level of medication even after she had emerged from a 2006 detox plan while pregnant with her daughter Danielynn.

But lawyers for Stern said Smith was not an addict but had dealt with chronic pain since 2000, and that she used other names to keep her medical issues private from the media.

He (Stern) cared for her, he cherished her, he loved her, said Sterns defence lawyer Steven Sadow. He relied in good faith on the medical judgment of doctors.

Eroshevich, a psychiatrist who at one time lived next door to Smith, flew to the Bahamas on several occasions to deliver muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety, sleep aids and anti-depressants, prosecutor Rose said.

But a lawyer for Eroshevich said she was not a pill-mill and that the prescriptions she wrote were not illegal.

Kapoors attorney said there was a legitimate medical purpose for the drugs Kapoor prescribed.

Stern, Kapoor and Eroshevich were charged after a criminal investigation ordered by California Attorney General Jerry Brown, who has vowed to crack down on prescription drug abuse in the state.

Brown has ordered probes into the drug-related deaths of more than 200 people in recent years. His officials also helped with the investigation of Michael Jacksons death last year which led to involuntary manslaughter charges against the singers personal physician, Dr Conrad Murray.

The trial of Anna Nicole Smiths two doctors and Stern is expected to last several weeks

Donald Trump dumps Rachel Uchitel from 'Celeb Apprentice' list

Photobucket
Only one reality show with "Celebrity" in the title for you, Rachel Uchitel.

"Celebrity Apprentice" star/producer Donald Trump, who was recruiting Tiger Woods' ur-mistress to be part of the next edition of the NBC show, has lost interest after she agreed to do VH1's "Celebrity Rehab."

"It's a terrible decision. We have zero interest in her now," Trump tells TMZ. "Look at what 'Celebrity Apprentice' did for Piers Morgan. He's getting Larry King's job. She made a bad mistake."

And this: "'Celebrity Apprentice' is a huge show and 'Celebrity Rehab' is not. ... I'm moving on."

We think maybe that Morgan's "America's Got Talent" stint and his well-regarded interview shows on British TV might have had something to do with his impending CNN gig, but we'll grant The Donald his point that "The Celebrity Apprentice" is much bigger (albeit not "huge") than "Celeb Rehab."

We just hope Dr. Drew can help Rachel with her love addiction.

Now and Then: Lindsay Lohan's dueling mugshots

Photobucket

What a difference three years has made in Lindsay Lohan's looks.

Her 2007 mug shot (right) for one of the two DUI convictions that basically resulted in her current imprisonment due to violations of parole really shows how much she's had done to her upper and lower Donald Duck lips.

In the 2010 booking photo (left), she gives a menacing and amused smirk. Even her eyes now look dead and creepy. And the long, thin, dry hair has faded from a golden blonde to a lighter, ashier hue.

Considering she was clearly blitzed in the 2007 photo, shouldn't she have looked a lot better in the current shot? After all, she's been wearing that SCRAM bracelet for a while, right?

She's certainly working on a nice little prison photo portfolio.

Lohan, 24, was booked into an all-female jail in south Los Angeles for violating her probation on two 2007 drunk-driving and cocaine possession charges.

The actress is likely to serve just 14 days behind bars, said Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which runs the jail system.

Whitmore told reporters that nonviolent female inmates generally serve about 25 percent of their sentence. Good behavior and jail overcrowding programs also reduce the time in L.A. lock-ups, he said.

Beverly Hills Judge Marsha Revel on Tuesday ordered that Lohan must not be released to house arrest or electronic monitoring.

The "Mean Girls" actress, whose promising career has foundered during two years of strenuous partying, looked tired and tense during a brief, silent appearance at a packed Beverly Hills courtroom on Tuesday morning, where she was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, told reporters Lohan is "scared as anyone would be...and she's resolute. She does her time just like anyone else."

Local TV news helicopters showed live video of Lohan's journey, an unmarked car with tinted windows, to the 2,200-bed Century Regional Detention Facility.

Whitmore said that Lohan "has been extremely cooperative and everything is going smoothly."

She will wear a standard orange jumpsuit, hand in any jewelry, and cellphones and computers are banned.

Cyrus steps out of tween idolhood toward Liberty

Photobucket
Cyrus performs on ABC's Good Morning America in New York, June 18, 2010.

Photobucket
Cyrus is trying to shake of the vestiges of Hannah Montana

Miley Cyrus audition tape for the Disney Channels HanID be found on YouTube. In it, the 12-year-old Cyrus is sporting frizzy hair, a big smile and, even then, her trademark whiskey drawl.

She displays the practiced poise of all child actors a fearlessness when it comes to staring straight into the camera and reciting her lines and her posture and mannerisms reveal that she knows this is a business opportunity and not a social call.

Flash-forward five years, and Cyrus latest YouTube offering, her video for the title track of her album Cant Be Tamed, involves a bird-cage set that doubles as a pole-dancing playground, writhing background dancers and an outfit notable for its feathers and dcolletage.

Like Disney teen idols Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake before her, Cyrus is making the often-murky transition into adult artist. The June 22 release of Cant Be Tamed is the boldest statement in a years-long process of transitioning Cyrus away from the scrubbed cheeks and all-American girl charm of Hannah Montana to a modern pop diva.

Im just at a certain place where Ive changed a lot as a person, she says. Ive grown up a lot, which everyone does.

Everyone does, but very few have to do it in the public spotlight with all the divisions of Miley Inc. from film to TV shows to voice-over work to apparel riding on the success of the transition.

Its no secret that Cyrus has been publicly testing the waters of adulthood for the past few years making dramatic displays like the bed-head Vanity Fair photos or the vaguely stripperish dance moves at Nickelodeons Teen Choice Awards followed by an equally dramatic retreat.

Her music has followed a similar act of toeing the line between tween and adult, with singles The Climb and Party in the USA offering a far different message from earlier teeny-bopper tracks like See You Again and 7 Things.

On the eve of the video debut of Tamed on May 4, Cyrus knows that its going to ruffle some feathers. Youre going to, like, die when you see the bird cage in the video because its so crazy, she says. Despite Cyrus march into adulthood, she still talks like a teenager all rapid-fire patter that, by a reporters transcribing tally, comes in at around 200 words per minute. Ive got, like, 30 dancers in there and a tree and a nest. Literally, its out of control. Im definitely going to be doing a lot more stuff like that.

Mileys transformation was inevitable shes been clawing herself out of that cage for a while, says Suzanne Ross, executive producer of E!s True Hollywood Story and E! Investigates. Im surprised it shocks people anymore. Its an inevitable part of growing up Disney. Its a formula, from what Ive seen from past stars: Disney makes you a star, you make them an enormous amount of money, and then you either crash and burn or you go out and stake your claim in the real world.

Cant Be Tamed (Hollywood Records) is Cyrus seventh studio album. Previous sets range from the four soundtracks shes released under the Hannah Montana imprimatur to two as herself and one Walmart-exclusive EP.

While Cyrus is strenuously distancing herself from the days of Hannah, she still has the benefit of being a product of the giant Disney promotional machinery.

Were very fortunate that we have artists who have many, many levels to their careers, whether its film, TV, books or records, Hollywood Records general manager Abbey Konowitch says. The unfortunate news is that were fighting for minutes not hours or weeks for the artists availability.

Cyrus began work on the album in December 2009, while she was touring in England, with a sold-out five-night stand at the O2 in London. Producer John Shanks who worked with Cyrus on her single The Climb reteamed with Cyrus for the album and racked up frequent-flier miles in the process.

John spent quite a bit of time, God bless him, running over to England and catching her for parts of the day for recording and writing, Hollywood Records head of A&R Jon Lind says. He would come back to LA and work on the songs and tracks. He was really a soldier and a world traveller for going to do this creative thing in between Mileys schedule.

Besides Shanks, Cyrus worked with two familiar faces on the album: co-songwriters Tim James and Antonina Armato, who penned 7 Things and See You Again and also wrote this albums title-track first single with Cyrus.

I call Antonina Mommy because shes my second mom, Cyrus says. No one could ever understand the relationship we have. Ive been working with her for four years, and every day I go into the studio and we just sit around and eat cupcakes and talk and I tell her everything about my life. I think thats why we make good music together.

Metal fan

Although several songs on the album throb with the kind of Euro-inspired dance beats heard on hits by David Guetta and the Black Eyed Peas, Cyrus says the sound is secondary to the personal lyrics.

I listen to zero pop music, which is really weird for someone who makes pop music, Cyrus says, noting that the first concert she ever went to was a show by Poison. (She covers the metal bands Every Rose Has Its Thorn on the album, with Bret Michaels doing backing vocals.)

My 13-year-old self would have beaten up my 17-year-old self because she would be like, Youre a sell-out! But thats not what it is. Its not dance music thats just about, Ooh, Im in the club and everyones looking at me. It means something. Im not just sitting here trying to sell glitz and glamour ... because no one lives that life. A lot of (pop) songs are super shallow, but this music isnt.

As an example, Cyrus cites the album track Liberty Walk, about someone who finds the courage to leave an abusive relationship. She says she doesnt have a formal process for song writing, instead preferring to take notes on her cell phone or in the journal she keeps on her computer.

With anything the clothes I wear or the way I want to look I dont plan it, Cyrus says. Even with the video (for Cant Be Tamed) I had the treatment, but beyond that, it was whatever comes. We didnt have all the choreography set in stone because I didnt want it to end up looking fake and polished. Everything in life has to come naturally or I feel like its just been done.

For Cyrus, being authentic may be the key to her success as she transitions to adulthood.

The challenge is: How do these pop teen idols mature without alienating their fans those that supported you on the way up, including the parents, who often shelled out the dough for the music and the concerts? Ross asks. Miley is in good company. After Britney (Spears) appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in the infamous hot pants that created a boycott of her music and the release of Im a Slave 4 U, she took a tremendous amount of heat. But as long as the audience perceives that the artist is in control of their image, theyre likely to be more forgiving. With Christina (Aguilera), when she put out Dirrty, that also created a media storm, but she reeled it back in when she reinvented herself with the torch songs and the ballads.

Hannah Montana, the TV show that made Cyrus a household name, is coming to an end. (The fourth and final season of the series will air this summer.) For Cyrus, its conclusion comes with a mixture of exultation and relief. But its relief tinged with the knowledge that the end of the TV show just frees Cyrus for more work.

Its hard when youre doing a show and youre going to London for two days and then you come back and youre doing the show again, she says. I can kind of bounce around everywhere and I dont really have something thats tying me back here.

A big part of the appeal of Hannah Montana was seeing her flip between the two characters she portrayed on the show: schoolgirl by day, pop star by night. The same could be said of Cyrus, as shes formed some teenage pop-culture opinions in her downtime from stardom. Lady Gaga gets a thumbs-up unlike a lot of artists, all her music does mean something to her personally and she cant quite find it in herself to suspend her belief enough to watch Glee, even though the show featured her hit The Climb in a recent episode.

Honestly, musicals? I just cant. What if this was real life and I was just walking down the street on Rodeo Drive and all of a sudden I just burst into song about how much I love shoes? She pauses for a second, and then laughs. It would get hits on YouTube.

Police explain reasons for reopening Gore case-Alleged sexual assault the massage therapist.

In this Nov. 11, 2009 file photo, former Vice President Al Gore speaks during the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Phoenix. Oregon authorities are reopening an investigation into a massage therapist's allegations that former Vice President Al Gore groped her at a hotel four years ago.

PORTLAND, Ore. Police explained Thursday why they reopened a sexual assault investigation into Al Gore, saying an extra review was needed because detectives looking into the matter last year failed to notify high-ranking officials of their decision to drop the case.

A massage therapist to the stars has accused the former vice president of repeatedly groping and kissing her during a late-night, alcohol-fueled attack in a luxury hotel suite in October 2006. Gore adamantly denies the allegations.

Hotel Lucia is shown Thursday, July 1, 2010, in Portland, Ore. Former Vice President Al Gore welcomes a Portland police decision to reopen an investigation into a massage therapist's allegations that he groped her at the hotel four years ago, his spokeswoman said.

Detectives investigated the claims in 2006 and 2009 but decided not to pursue the case amid a lack of cooperation and erratic behavior by the accuser. The story re-emerged last week after she told her story to the National Enquirer, and police this week said they would reopen the case.

Portland Police Chief Michael Reese said Thursday that "we have determined there were procedural issues with the 2009 investigation that merit reopening the case." Officers took the accuser's statement but didn't proceed further and didn't clear that decision with higher-ups. In addition, prosecutors were not made aware of the 2009 investigation until recently.

Police would not say whether they would interrogate Gore or examine a pair of black pants the accuser wore on the night in question that she said became stained during the massage.

Gore has said through a spokeswoman that he "unequivocally and emphatically denies" the accusations and believes he will be fully exonerated once the investigation is complete.

"Further investigation into this matter will only benefit Mr. Gore," said the spokeswoman, Kalee Kreider.

A longtime Gore friend and former campaign and political consultant, Mark McNeely of Nashville, said in a telephone interview Thursday that the allegation seems like an "utterly ridiculous" attempt by the accuser to enrich herself.

Reese promised a thorough, fair and expedited investigation.

"We ask for the public's patience as we let the facts of the investigation guide us and ensure the integrity of the investigation," Reese said. "I have asked Detectives to assign appropriate resources in the interest of conducting a complete investigation in an expedited manner."

The investigation threatens to engulf Gore in a sex scandal once unthinkable for the Nobel prize winner who built up an image as a doting husband and family man who fell in love with his wife at the high school prom and lived happily ever after. The Gores' squeaky clean public image always stood in sharp contrast to the troubled marriage of the Clintons during their time in the White House.

But Gore and his wife, Tipper, announced in June that they were breaking up, saying that they had grown apart after 40 years of marriage. Associates and family friends said there was no affair involved.

Not long after the split became public, Portland police announced that they had investigated Gore on sexual assault charges over the encounter with massage therapist Molly Hagerty in October 2006.

Police decided in 2006 not to pursue a case after her lawyer told them she would file a civil complaint. She came back to cops in early 2009 and asked that they bring the case again, providing them a statement that spelled out in precise detail how Gore allegedly assaulted her.

She showed up at Gore's 9th-floor executive suite late on the night of Oct. 24 while he was in town for a speech on global warming. "Call me Al," she quoted Gore as saying as he gave her a big hug.

She said he was finishing up a beer when she entered the room, and told investigators it wasn't long before an innocent massage turned into a series of unwanted sexual advances.

Hagerty said he dimmed the lights and asked her to massage the inside muscles of his thigh a request she viewed as inappropriate. She refused and he allegedly put her hands on his genital area. Hagerty said Gore became angry when she pushed back.

Once the massage was complete and she began packing up her table, massage butters and other materials, Hagerty said Gore began to grope her.

"I squirmed to try and get out of his grasp, telling him to stop, don't, several times, and I finally told him and said, 'You're being a crazed sex poodle,'" she told investigators.

She said she distracted Gore, and he stopped. Later, he tried to ply her with cognac and fondle her again, Hagerty alleges.

The Associated Press does not generally identify people who say they are victims of sex crimes, but Hagerty has made her identity public by giving an interview to the National Enquirer.

Hagerty said they engaged in several random conversations over the course of the night, including his lingering bitterness over losing the 2000 presidential election, the marital situation of Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton and his ties to Apple board of directors.

At one point, Hagerty said Gore pinned her on the bed as he played Pink's anti-Bush screed, "Dear Mr. President," on an iPod.

She says she finally got away at around 1:30 a.m., went home, and called a friend about the ordeal. The woman said she was initially dissuaded from contacting the police by liberal friends, whom she refers to as "The Birkenstock Tribe," and of which she counts herself a member.

One friend "was basically asking me to just suck it up, otherwise the world's going to be destroyed from global warming," she said.

The latest edition of the National Enquirer identified the masseuse by name and said she wants a full investigation of Gore because "I want justice served."

"He turned from Mr. New Age into a pervert," Hagerty told the tabloid newspaper.

A photo with the article shows Hagerty holding a plastic bag containing a pair of pants from the night. She said she kept the pants because she wondered whether the stain might be Gore's semen, although she has also said no actual sex act took place.

She told the Enquirer, "I thought the stain could have occurred while Mr. Gore leaned on me while he was wearing an open robe." She said she paid to have the pants tested, but the findings were "inconclusive."

Hagerty, 54, lives in an apartment in southeast Portland. She didn't answer her door Thursday morning or return calls to The Associated Press.
