For Naomi Campbell, the model who has forged a parallel career as a chucker of diamante-encrusted mobile phones, says her tantrums come from a deep-seated sense of 'abandonment'.
Miss Campbell, who is 39, told Oprah Winfrey this week she didn't want to make excuses for her bad behaviour... but just couldn't help going on to make a string of special pleas to explain why she kept on striking out, nonetheless.

'It comes from a deeper place than that with me. It comes from another type of emotional disorder because it's not just if I don't get what I want I throw a fit... It comes from, I think, an abandonment issue ... if I feel a mistrust, then... all my cards go down,' she said.
Her 'cards' certainly went down when she assaulted her assistant with a mobile phone - this after serving a community service order in 2007 after throwing a phone at her housekeeper.
Not forgetting when she was sentenced to community service in 2008 after assaulting two police officers at Heathrow. That's one heck of an 'abandonment' issue.
When it comes to making excuses, there are few people in the world better equipped than celebrities...
PARIS HILTONThe socialite was pictured with a white substance clearly visible in her nose. Her spokesman said: 'I can tell you Paris does not use narcotics. I would imagine it's something like whipped cream or a sugary substance from dessert.
Something that naturally might have found its way onto her face if she touched her nose or whatever. I'd label it a stray dessert.'

Last year, Amy was seen crawling around a hotel in St Lucia on all fours, stealing booze from tables and being a nuisance. She was such an annoyance that the hotel asked her to leave.
Her father, Mitch, popped up with excuses for her behaviour. 'She is better,' he said. 'She was close to death twice. We have been working a lot to get her to where she is now.' And the crawling? 'She was just having fun, pretending to be a horse.'
LILY ALLENThe singer had to be carried out of the Elle Magazine Style Awards in 2008. She had been seen sinking Champagne while getting dressed, followed by gin and vodka and Asahi beer.
She believed that her drunkenness was, er, not her fault - she believed her drink was spiked.
'The worrying thing was that I was like a dead weight. I have been out so many times and got drunk and never ended up like that. When I finally got home, I just passed out.'
LINDSAY LOHANThe actress was pulled over by police and found to have cocaine in her pockets. She said she had borrowed the trousers and had no idea what the drugs were doing there.
ANDREW RIDGELEYThe Wham star said in 1984 that a friend had accidentally swung a Champagne bottle at him in a nightclub, breaking his nose.
In fact, the reason he was covered in bandages was that he had undergone cosmetic surgery on his hooter.
ASHLEY COLEIn February, the footballer was revealed to have sent explicit pictures of himself, naked in the bath, to topless model Sonia Wild. He said he didn't send the pictures to her, but that they were on his pay-as-you-go phone, which he had passed to a friend.
Cole, 29, said: 'I gave a phone away that still had stuff in its memory. I thought I had deleted it.'
The following day, it emerged that there were hundreds of texts and yet more explicit pictures that he had sent to another woman.

TATUM O'NEILThe former child star was arrested for buying crack cocaine near her apartment in Manhattan in 2008. She told police she had been buying the drugs for research for a film project.
Then she blamed her slip from sobriety on the death of her Scottish terrier dog, Lena. Later, she pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and spent two half-day sessions in a drug treatment programme.
BOY GEORGEThe singer denied that the cocaine that was found in his apartment in New York belonged to him. 'He is a very social person,' said his lawyer. 'He has a lot of people in his apartment.' He was found guilty and ordered to do community service.
STINGWAS photographed in the back of a car, leaving the car park of Hamburg's most famous brothel at 2.15am in 2007. A spokesman for the club said she knew a photo of Sting was taken in the car park - but denied he had been inside.
Sting's publicist said: 'Sting and his wife have always been open about their interest in strip clubs. It is nothing he would be ashamed of.'
